I grew up thinking that I understood what it meant to eat healthfully, my vision was very skewed. It wasn’t until 2009 that I truly started to learn and understand the importance of a whole food, plant based diet.
I owe much of my journey to MyFoodDiary.com. I learned about balancing nutrients and about how much food a woman of my age and height should actually consume, and how to motivate myself to eat well and to exercise. I’m very grateful to the site, and I’m still a member today. If you join, I have a personal thread that outlines my entire journey from then until now. Drop by and we can be MFD friends!
In 2011, my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 testicular cancer. He has since recovered, and I would like to think that our green smoothie and juice lifestyle has been part of his return to health.
I live in St. Catharines, in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada. Along with my wonderful husband, Geoff, I also have two beautiful birds, Lindy the Lovebird (who is very picky) and Gaudi the Green Quaker Parrot (who eats everything and loves green smoothies and salad).
- Green! Green! Green!
- Incorporating more raw & whole foods into meals.
- Replacing sugar with low-glycemic alternatives like dates, stevia, coconut sugar, etc.
- Increasing the fibre and providing options for gluten-free friends whenever possible.
- Omission of animal products for a more vegan-friendly lifestyle.
A friend once called me a mad scientist when it comes to my food experimentation, but I prefer to think of what I do as research and development. I’m interested in all things related to alternative and integrative cuisine, raw uncooking and baking.
In addition to my recipe experimentation for my own enjoyment, I’m also the creator of Health Nut Raw Foods which I have since sold, a small company purveying Specialty Nut & Seed Butters and Raw Vegan Nut Cheese.
